10 Things That Could Make Season 10 LEGENDARY
By: Gaby
A few days ago I did an article about what, in my humble fan opinion, made season 9 an extraordinary season. Now I want to take the time talking about what I would love to see on Season 10, which is the final chapter of this journey called Smallville.
Being honest, after watching Season 9, I can say that whatever they do, it will be great so these, more than wishes, more than suggestions, are things I am throwing out there in the universe.
Some are most likely to happen than others. Some could end up being missing opportunities and I’ll have to settle on with fan fiction then, but never say I didn’t try and asked the universe for these.
Contrary popular believes, and this might shock you: I don’t want flight, don’t get me wrong, I want to see Clark to take flight too, but I think that’s an obvious thing. That will happen, being at the beginning, middle or end of the season so I won’t include it on these 10 things.
I don’t want Batman around either, so I won’t ask for him. First: is useless, asking this knowing I’ll have the same answer over and over again. Second: what for? Specially now? The last thing we need is focus an episode on the final season to the introduction of another DC Character, and one as big as Bruce Wayne/Batman which brings me to: 10. Put the DC Toy Box Away This Year. I won’t lie; I am one of those that get excited when a new DC Comic character is introduced. I enjoyed Hex. I loved Absolute Justice, Run and Aqua, Cyborg, Siren and Justice, all epic, all iconic, but being on the final season? I think is time to focus more about Clark. It was already established he is a leader on Salvation, so it should be time to let that part go. The point was already being made Clark Kent is the leader of the JLA and he doesn’t need tights and fly to prove it.
Ok, I might accept Dinah back (cause Alaina Huffman couldn’t be in more than 2 episodes because her other show) and that’s because I guess Oliver should have some kind of closure as well in the show and Smallville loves foreshadowing. Speaking of which: 9. Arrive, Eat and Leave. Or in other words, if people are returning, let’s do this quick and painless. And yes I am speaking specifically about Lana. I heard Tom Welling say that besides wanting to have Lex back he would want to have Lana back also; so it might happen. I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Kristin Kreuk indeed comes back, it’s somehow expected; but please can we keep this under 1-2 episode deal?, the last thing we need is to have another 5-episode arc and specially about, the obvious Lana-Clark-Lois triangle.
Say no to the stretch. All we need is: Lana is back (without powers), she is happy, no drama, bye. Again on the final season, Clark should be focused on other things like 8. Reporter Clark. Clark Kent is not only meant to become Superman, Clark Kent is meant to be a great reporter as Lois Lane. This is not a façade, Clark is supposed to LOVE journalism, this is a part of him that was dropped a long time ago and it needs focus. As important as being a JLA leader, as important as his relationships is his work as the Daily Planet Reporter. Clark Kent the reporter is not a disguise is part of his life.
We have to remember that beyond his powers, beyond being from another planet, Clark was raised and is living an human life, enjoying a suffering as a regular human being, doing, living, feeling human things, that reminds me, and this I am going to blame TPTB for it 7. The Proposal. Come on you saw this coming since you put a ring on Lois Lane on that flash forward vision of 2013 on Salvation. If you showed the fruit you need to show the seed. Aside the shipper point of this. Clark started as a boy, a Superboy; I must say that it would kind of cool if we end the show with Clark as Superman and as a MAN. Having a work and being in a committed relationship.
Lois already knows the secret (and please let’s keep it this way) so is not that beyond the reality to think than somewhere along the season a proposal or a consideration of one comes. Of course this comes hand in hand in how the Clark and Lois relationship is developed now that all the cards would be on the table, but this can only work if. 6. Erica Durance on 22 Episodes. This.is.the.final.season, is time for Lois Lane to be in ALL the episodes. Her absents are beyond anticlimactic by now, like on season 9, Charade? We were left with a cliffhanger that it was never resolved, not on the next episode, Sacrifice (cause Erica wasn’t there) but neither on the next one, Hostage, that picked up like, nothing happened, we never knew what happened, what Lois said, what Clark did, nothing.
This is the final path so Lois Lane has to be way more involved on Clark’s story. This is perhaps a shallow request, specially trying to find the time and space in an already crowed Season 10 for it, but, Chloe had a birthday, Oliver had a birthday, Clark had a Birthday, could we please 5. Have a Lois Birthday Episode? Pretty please? Of course it would be better to have an episode about Little Lois and her army days (btw, if you can bring Michael Ironside back…. That would be swell) but that could take a detour of any arc already written and that’s probably a luxury that can’t be taken, so it could be easier to just say: is Lois’ Birthday. It doesn’t have to be an overboard, but it would be nice to have a light fun time this season and what better than doing it with a Lane birthday. Or if you like you can have it around Christmas and killing two birds with one stone.
Light episodes are always welcome, Hex was a fun one among the drama that was happening around giving us, and the villains a rest. Speaking of villains: 4. They’ll be Back. And I am not only talking about the obvious “bring back Lex” choice, I am talking about Zod as well. These villains marked a before and an after on the story of Smallville. And the greatest thing? You don’t need to give them closure because they are on Clark’s future. Bring Lex and let him kill Tess once for all (something tells me that Michael Rosenbaum and Cassidy Freeman would have the time of their lives working together), find the way to merge Phantom Zod with Clone Zod to make GENERAL Zod! (Or just bring back Callum Blue; I am not picky in HOW). Clark doesn’t need to face them, they don’t need to be developed, they just need to be there and let us know, they could come back….any time.
The next one not only applies for Lex and Zod’s return. This one is probably one of the pivotal things season 10 needs and it requires everybody involment: Cast, Crew and Network; 3. PROMOTION. Is the Final season, the world must know about it. We need a new photoshoot, enough with the Season 5 recycling. Tom is different, Erica has a different hair. We need new stuff; we need the cast out there. More Photoshots less Photoshop CW. Smallville has the most gorgeous cast on TV; the magazines should have them on their covers.
This is the last chance, Smallville is saying good bye, and it should go with a BANG; 2. Two Hour Finale, please, no more trying to fit action, romance, and x effects ECT, all on 1 hour. Smallville needs its 2 hours finale. It needs to take time to give closures, to give a new beginning. Give it it’s time to say good bye, its time, its peace, don’t rush it. Giving the show less than 90 min to conclude its story would be disrespectful.
Don’t deny Smallville the proper closure, the closure they have earned, that the fans have earned on these 10 years.
And above all, respect its legend; 1. Clark, Clark, CLARK. On this season, never forget for whom and about whom this show started: Clark Kent. Be faithful to him, focus on him, remember that on this story, everyone lives and breathes around Clark. He is the priority.
I won’t ask you to forget to give closure to the supporting characters, it won’t be fair, but I’ll ask you to remember that above all them is Clark Kent. The hero, the one whose morals MUST respected and vindicated. The leader; the one which other heroes look up to. This is HIS story, the story about a kid that felt from the sky and now is a man that will protect the planet. Not only the planet that adopted him as one of us; the planet that he adopted as his.
Whatever you do this next year, I am sure about one thing, that you would do the best job ever. And as sad as I am because this is the end of a era for me I can’t wait to see how this ends.
