Sheriff Adams: You did good for a change, Mr. Kent. Little critter wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for you.
Clark: Dad, this baby’s parents – I don’t think they’re from
around here.
Jonathan: [confused] What do you mean?… You think this
baby’s not – the baby’s not from earth?
Clark: We found him a cater – just like you and mom found me.
Jonathan: Yeah. Yeah, but when we found you, we also found a
spaceship.
Lana: Wow, looks like someone has the magic touch.
Lionel: Genevieve, you know I’m not accustomed to being
summoned like a lap dog.
Genevieve: [smiles] Don’t be silly, Lionel. I’d never allow
you in my lap.
Genevieve: You know, Lionel, I don’t think either of one of
us would want me to go after Lex myself.
Lionel: [very serious] You be careful, Genevieve. I regard a
threat to any Luthor as a threat to me.
Genevieve: Interpret it anyway you like. I want that stone –
Lionel.
Lana: Clark Kent– changing diapers like a pro.
Clark: Nice aim, Little Guy.
Lana: Clark, we can’t keep calling him “Little Guy”. They’re
going to make fun of him when he gets to high school.
Clark: Well, we found him in Evan’s Field [picks up the baby]
– why don’t we call him Evan.
Lana: [smiles] I think he likes it. Hello, Evan. This is
Clark and I’m Lana and we think you’re the most beautiful baby ever.
Lex: I don’t have it [the stone]… and even if I did, I’d
never trust you.
Lionel: [disappointed] Lex… we haven’t a lot of time left
to spend together. You can go on for the rest of your life being
mistrustful of me; or you can accept me as your father, who loves
you.
[Lex turns but doesn’t say anything; he remains mistrustful of
Lionel.]
Lionel: She’s dangerous, Lex. She… watch your back, Son.
Lex: [as he walks away] I always do.
Clark: [to Jonathan] If I was in trouble, and Lex was the
only one who could help, what would you do?
Clark: We’re not your real parents.
Evan: But everyone’s supposed to have a mother and father.
They’re supposed to love each other very much, just like you and
Lana.
[Lana and Clark share a look, uncertain what to say.]
Lana: Clark and I care about you a lot, Evan. That’s what
matters.
Lex: Unbelievable.
Lex: Prep the Level 3 facility; I want him transferred
immediately.
Evan: It’s like my life is just some sort of trick that was
played on me.
Turner: Who the hell are you?
Clark: I’m the guy who found your son.
Clark: Lex, I’m not gonna let him just die.
Lex: Nothing can stop that from happening now, Clark.
[understanding, but persistent] Look, I’m sorry… but if we don’t
isolate Evan, a lot of innocent people are going to be killed.
Evan: [to Lana] The windmill that you told me about.
Remember? When the whole world stretches out around you? I’d like to
see it – just once. [feels the pain from his impending change]
Please Lana, hurry.
Chloe: [to Clark, who has superspeeded away] Go get ‘em,
Speedy.
Evan: I’m sorry for what I said.
Clark: It’s OK, it’s all right.
Evan: I’m glad it was you and Lana who found me.
Clark: I think you found us.
Evan: It’s happening… I can feel it. You better go.
Clark: No, Evan. I’m not leaving you.
Evan: I wish you would’ve been my father, Clark.
Lana: I can’t believe he’s gone.
Clark: I know. Me too.
Lana: This whole year, I felt so disconnected, but when Evan
came into my life, it was like I finally knew where I belong. I had
a purpose.
Clark: He only lived for a short time, but it seems like
Evan’s affected us like we’ve known him our whole lives.
Clark: [to Lana] I guess we should make the most of the time
we have – before it’s too late.
Lana: [takes The Velveteen Rabbit out of a box] This
was his favorite book.
Clark: Really?
Lana: Yeah.
Clark: It was my favorite when I was kid.
[Lana smiles.]
Clark: [walks behind Lana to look at the book with her] I
used to pretend that I was the rabbit. I was just like him; that my
parents brought me to life with their love.
Lionel: [to Genevieve, threatening] One more thing, you go
near my son and anything that happens to him, happens to you.
Understood?
Jonathan: [to Clark] You see, every parent’s greatest fear is
that one day, they will lose their child forever.
Clark: Seems like raising a kid is the toughest job in the
world.
Martha: And the most rewarding.
Jonathan: There is nothing quite like watching your son grow
up into a yound man you can be very proud of.
Martha: [to Clark] You never know what the future will bring
you.
Lex: I bet you’re gonna be a great dad someday, Clark.
[he turns, as Clark reflects on Lex’s words]
Clark: So will you, Lex.
[Lex turns, smiles]
Lex: I don’t know about that. Look, we’re all reflections of
how we’ve been raised. Your parents gave you encouragement and
support. Mine chose the opposite track. I plan on leaving a
different kind of legacy.
Lex: Eventually.
