“Infamous” Review
By: Gabriela
After an almost untolerable hiatus, Smallville is back with a few returns. Before returning to 90210, Tori Spelling returns as Linda Lake the gossip reporter that turns herself in water. Her last appareance was on 2007 on season 6th episode “Hydro” when she entered on the People hit by Lana Lang’s car list. Sam Witwer also returns. Last time we saw Davis was freezing his doomed assets on the Fortress of Solitude [Solitude? It should be renamed, Fortress of Everybody-is-welcome-heretude – Celia] Also returning after a…..wait…I lost count since when we didn’t see Erica Durance on the show. She was more recurrent on season 4th. Well Lois is back and I am happy for that. I shouldn’t be biased here but with Lois you have a lighter vibe on the show.
So we are back on track to resume the arcs that were put on hold apparently for almost 5 months. For those who are just joining us: technically Smallville came back on January 15th with 4 new episodes that felt more like season 7th’s episodes than being suited for the arc of the current one; then the show went again on hiatus and returned on March 5th with this episode. I am going to be honest, I am going to pretend those episodes never existed and leave the joyful duty to Celia and Carla to review those [Should I be grateful for that? - Celia].
Previously on Smallville (apparently the CW or the editing team thought the same as me because I don’t see anything post –Bride on the recap) we have a close up of Linda Lake’s face on “Hydro”. The first Red and Blue Blur (let’s make a deal I write from now on RBB and you’ll know what I mean) photo made by Jimmy on “Identity”, Davis/Doomsday/Chloniac on “Legion” and the events on “Bride” remembering, in case you forgot on these 5 months (I wouldn’t blame you) regarding Clark and Lois.
Ok let’s start. It’s raining downpour on Metropolis and we finally watch Lois coming back to Metropolis after spending, unknown among of time playing Nurse Betty for Jimmy on Star City. She is about to pull off another Renée Zellweger’s character and give her best impression of Bridget Jones being splashed with water by the Taxi that just dropped her off. She was supposed to be picked up by Clark on the airport, three hours later. Clark who just speeded in the scene is trying to apologize to a very angry Lois, that in a typical lady in disaster move, her suitcase just breaks open and hr clothes fall on the wet floor. Oh not so good day to be Lois. Clark excuses himself telling her that he was working, but Lois is not listening and tells him that she gets it that she is not on his priority list. I have to stop here. Why Lois didn’t arrive directly to her place?…….no wait that set is yet to be build, frankly we don’t know if it will ever be.
Now probably the first time on my life I actually cringed in how Tom Welling delivered his lines on this scene with Tori Spelling. I don’t know how Spelling acts in other roles, I am not familiar with 90210 so I can’t comment on her acting there, but on Hydro she was just fine so I was also surprised in how BAD she acted here and brought down Welling with her. Quick and almost painless for you and me: Linda will expose Clark if he doesn’t give her the exclusive about him being the RBB.
We cut back after the credits. Chloe asking Clark some DVD’s for Jimmy (who? Oh yeah Chloe’s husband yet to be seen) Clark is all thoughtful and he explains to Chloe that Linda is back again and she knows his secret. Before Chloe can came up with a plan to stop her again Clark delivers shocking news that he is going to come out on his own terms. Chloe tries to make him re-think what he is about to do, the RBB will have an address and a face not a blur on a photo but Clark’s is decided to do it, this way he can tell his story on his way and people to accept him and be able to be himself. Chloe smiles but it’s clear she isn’t too much convinced by this.
Metropolis General. We see Davis taking some pills from the dispensary. He is caught by a nurse asking him who is he, and that he has never seen him before. Davis says she took some time off since Legion (yeah I wish I could have done that myself). The nurse stills is suspicious about him taking some drugs, he says he is restocking his paramedic kit with antipsychotics. The nurse now is convinced. She goes away and Davis is the one with multiple personalities because he is the one taking one of the pills.
Back to the bullpen on the Daily Planet. Lois is back to work also. Clark is watching her. He tries to talk with her but she is ignoring him for the airport incident. He says that she can’t ignore him forever. She says it could be worse that he can be ignored under the three hour downpour. He says he wants her to write his story. She says that her days of writing classifies of Lonely seeks Lonelier are over. He insists is an interesting one. She says that she is busy that he might forget about her (or the show, it’s the same) but the news world didn’t (or her fans, it’s the same). He says that after she hears this the world won’t forget her ever. She is willing to listen, he says he is the RBB and she laughs on his face, she keeps walking laughing and goes to a copy room to find more papers. Clark explains to her that he was the one the save her on “Identity” and was the one responsible for the barn door incident on “Sneeze” (too…much….continuity….my ….brain …can’t ….process…it) she jokes about his power being sneezing. She hops on a table to get her papers but she can’t reach them. Clark “helps her” with that lifting the desk and making her reach the papers. She falls Clark catches her and she is awe “I guess I should stop calling you Smallville” (ok seriously this is freaking me out, too much continuity, did they hired the How I Met your Mother writers?).
Lois don’t stop calling him Smallville, you might force TPTB to change the name of the show.
Commercials…..too long….too many.
Welcome back to Confession 101. Clark is telling Lois about his powers, she is still in awe and she thinks she is the first one he has told about. He says that Lana and Chloe knew before her. He fails to mention that YES she is the first person he tells about his powers. Chloe and Lana knew because of external circumstances. Chloe was told by Alicia and Lana learned it after almost making Chloe in Chloeoux 1972 part if the exclusive wine collection of the Luthor’s. She wonders how she never figured out, not before be shocked with the X-Ray vision power. She says that she lived with him (good times) and now they work practically on top of each other (if only). You are Lois Lane you are supposed to be “galactically stupid” when it comes to Clark’s secret. She doesn’t fell that badly though Clark tells her that the important thing is that she knows that now and there is no better reporter than her to tell his story. She tells him that tomorrow everybody will know about the meteor infected hero. Eh…time to talk about Krypton…which happens but we don’t see it.
Next we know Clark is like the next Backstreet Boy (any chance is good for me to mention the BSBs) minus the hysteric crazy fan…..no wait here there is, a girl jumps from a firescape stairs and makes Clark to rescue her. Clark’s tells her that she can’t do that. She doesn’t care she kissed Tom Welling. Linda Lake appears and she is pissed. She’ll have the last word.
Chloe is having problems on her part, she is trying to get Jimmy admitted on the Met-Gen but she can’t because she is being acoosed by paparazzi. Being a celebrity sucks sometimes. She meets Davis and: she asks him to use some influences to have Jimmy admitted? No she wants to talk about the calls on the wedding. He says that don’t worry he has moved on. She clearly doesn’t remember her time as Chloniac. A nurse all excited ask Davis if he knows the Kryptonian best friend.
Now in the Withe Farm we see posters of Clarak Kobama. Chloe tries to enter but she is being asked about how is to be a friend with an alien “it’s hard you have to think too much times for him”. She finally meets Clark inside. Clark is talking his mom…..holy molly!! A Martha mention!!! Chloe informs him about his new penthouse office next to Tess and that Lake has a weakness, electricity and that she was on Black Creek also. A woman cries on TV saying that Clark didn’t save his husband.
Lake fires back and tells the world on TV that Clark killed Lex and he is the first of an alien invasion. Linda is actually the second with that make up she is not possibly human. Police is arriving to Clark house. Chloe suggest escaping, Clark tells her that he will confront them and fight back with truth. Chloe reluncently goes. Clark gets interrogate by the SWAT/FBI whatever but he doesn’t let them run some tests. He gets some bouncing bullets and meets Chloe on the forest. He tells her he is going to use the Legion ring to go back to the past and prevent Linda to write about him. Linda of course is listening.
Daily Planet. Lois is calling Clark and telling him the same Clark is doing, being honest and just fight back with the truth. Then his editor comes and shows him tomorrow’s front page. Clark killed Lex. She fins Linda on the elevator and accuses her in not seeing good in people and that people look up for Clark that he could be the hero people always wanted it. Linda shots back saying that if her “boyfriend” cares about the people he would have done things on her way.
Lois goes to talk with Tess to stop Clark’s bashing from the paper. But she doesn’t find her; she finds very angry officers and some bullets that would hit her if Clark doesn’t come to her rescue. Kent farm, Clark and Lois arrive there, Clark tells her about his plan of coming back in time, and she says that he should let people to see who he really is. He says that it’s too late. Oh God I am going to cry. She talks about Clark being special, not because the Alien thing, she has know enough guys to know that have been born on earth and being far from normal. Clark tells her that she doesn’t have to explain he gets it. Eh he is not…..she says that for having X-Ray Vision he can be so blind. She talks about her on the hero read and that this time being different. Clark says it will be different nobody will know him. Lois says if he is going to tell her his secret when he gets back, he says sorry, cue for no. She gets is, why she would think she is special. Clark tells her that is because she IS special. He has to go, but Donna arrived first and took the ring and left a little piece of something for him kryptonite. Donna hits Lois and leaves her unconscious.
Now on the ISIS foundation Chloe is destroying all the info she has on the database and on papers, Davis appears and is about to become Doomsday, he tells her that he is the other Kryptonian and he was send to kill Clark. Chloe freaks out, yells him to stay away from Clark. Davis yells her to run. He becomes in Doomsday Chloe grabs her Taxi and while she turns on the engine she calls Lois telling her to tell Clark that Davis is Doomsday. Doomie breaks Chloe’s taxi door and cut to black. He probably killed her.
Lois is still unconscious, Linda keeps talking and Clark is still in pain. Lois walks up kicks Linda Lake’s watery butt and hears Chloe’s voicemail. She is about to tell Clark the news but Clark in a questionable move puts the ring before hearing her.
RESTART
Clark appears two days earlier and stops Linda from even writing his expose. He has an article on his own exposing her crimes. He also neutralizes her with electricity.
This time Clark does get in time to pick up Lois on the airport. She is obviously happier than at the beginning of the episode and offers Clark a semi date to drink coffee to talk about what happened on The Olsen’s wedding…..or not.
Now Clark after being dry meets with Chloe and talks about using the red and blue outfit for heroic things. Chloe encourages Clark to tell Lois again now that he knows how she reacts. Clark says that more than ever Lois can’t know his secret. Chloe thinks that he doesn’t want to get hurt again. Clark tells her that he destroyed the Legion ring cause is dangerous [no we didn’t notice that you wanted to change the subject, subtle Clark…. – Celia]
Back again to Davis and his drugs, this time the nurse says that a patient is looking for him. Linda Lake has been doing her homework about Davis too. She pissed him enough that he did what we wanted to do since she opened her mouth at the beginning of the episode. He suffocates her with a pillow killing her. He has found an effective way (more effective than pills) to control the doom within. Killing.
More music on the show, now we can hear “Dreamer” while Lois is in a coffee shop waiting for Clark to come. Clark is all dressed up on the other side of the street, he doesn’t get to cross it, he lies sending her a sms telling her that he has work and he can make it. She lies also telling him that she was chasing a lead that she couldn’t make it either. Unlike Clark she was caught in the lie. Clark tenses his jaw and leaves Lois in the light of the coffee house and he hides on the dark of the street.
As the song says “careful what you wish for love”. Clois has been launched officially as THE couple….but comes with angst and everything. And Smallville is like that angst comes with the couple.
THE GOOD
Lois is back YAY!! Erica just rocked in all her scenes; she was funny, sarcastic, dramatic, in awe, in love, sad. All those emotions she nailed perfectly. Clark and Lois scenes all worked like always. Welling and Durance have this great chemistry and they just go with the flow and it feels so natural.
THE NOT THAT GOOD
Well since I think the entire episode was good, I am not going to have a BAD part, but there were parts that were not that fabulous. Linda Lake was waaaayyyyy better on Hydro. I was just about to take that pillow myself just to shut her up.
THE UNDERSTANDABLE
Most people were angry because Clark basically stood Lois up. But I have a different point of view. I kind of get why he did it, and I commented this on the forums. Clark on a moment said that after he told Lois’ his secret he thought he had it all. But as Chloe says he is trying to not get hurt falling in love again and he doesn’t want to hurt Lois either. But it’s funny cause going to have a coffee with Lois and tell her that he is not ready for that, meaning being more than friends or see where this is going, for him will be like closing the door to someday have a relationship with her.
He basically doesn’t want to give in because he doesn’t want to get hurt like what happened with Lana but he doesn’t want to give up the possibility of being more than friends with Lois and falling in love again.
So I give a score of 4.5…no…..I am easy I’ll give it 5/5 cause advance and we went back to our regular broadcasting.
You know what to do, give some feedback HERE
